The Federal Emergency Management Agency may be pulling its staff out of Brooklyn, but at least Brooklynites forced by Hurricane Sandy out of their homes will be able to stay in their hotel rooms a little longer.
The agency has extended until March 10 the Transitional Sheltering Assistance program, which pays for those displaced by Hurricane Sandy to stay in hotels or motels.
The two week extension from the previous check-out deadline of Feb. 24 is the latest in a long series of brief extensions beginning at the end of November last year, just a month after the storm. The extensions, usually for only two weeks at a time, have typically been announced just days before displaced families would have to start fending for themselves.
Sandy victims can apply for assistance by calling (800) 621–FEMA or applying online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov.
