Hats off to the newly installed board members of the Lutheran Medical Center Auxiliary. The 114 membership — at a special luncheon held at Harbor Hill in Sunset Park — appointed Margherita Clemento as president, Astrid Bjune as first veep, and Eleanor Petty as second veep. Former prez Jane Kelly is now the nominating chairman, with additional appointments including treasurer Adelaide Johnson, recording secretary Muriel Niemi, corresponding secretary Florence Schwer, financial secretary Carol Hille, and members-at-large Lorraine Caramico and Corrinne Korn, (a very special relative of Standing O).

These women are dedicated to serving patients, families, and the medical staff — and are proud as peacocks to serve.

“I am honored to have been given the opportunity to serve as president and am committed to uphold the duties of my office!” our pal Margherita told Standing O.

The auxiliary, which has been an integral part of the hospital since 1906, provides support for many internal programs.

“Given that the auxiliary members are active in so many areas of the community, we are honored that they have so diligently served the center for so many years,” said Karen Lennon, senior veep of External Affairs.

Members help with community relations, provide health service information, and raise funds to support patient services. Over the years, the auxiliary has donated more than $2 million to support the renovation of the surgical waiting area, the Emergency Department and recovery rooms, as well as the expansion of the Intensive Care Unit.
