A Park Slope homicide suspect’s day-long bathroom break is over, police said.
Brandon Santana, 24, was nabbed by the Regional Fugitive Task Force in a friend’s apartment in the Bronx around 3:15 pm on Friday, after escaping the day before while being escorted to a toilet from his Prospect Heights holding cell.
Santana’s brief time on the lam began at about 2 am on Jan. 24, when he pushed his escorting officer to the ground – giving the cop a minor elbow injury – and ran out of the 78th Precinct station house on 6th Avenue near Bergen Street, said Officer Sophia Tassy of the NYPD.
Santana had just been taken into custody a few hours earlier as a suspect in the 2010 homicide of 22-year-old Alexander Santiago, who was fatally beaten with a metal tire iron near the corner of 5th Avenue and 12th Street during a fight between two groups of men on Aug. 1, 2010. Santiago died later at New York Methodist Hospital in Park Slope.
