Willkommen nachrichten — the newest Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence at the college is South African Vaneshran Arumugam, and he is crossing the pond from Cape Town to our very own Brooklyn Town to bring his unique artistic, social, and scholarly skills for the Spring 2013 semester.
With his talents, the drama students at St. Francis are in for a real treat. He is an accomplished actor, playwright, teacher, director, and social activist. He is scheduled to introduce a new course, South African Literature, and is planning on guest lecturing for classes in Communication Arts, Sociology, and Political Science, as well as giving performances. Standing O can hardly wait.
Arumugam has performed “Hamlet” with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and acted with Sir Derek Jacobi of “I Claudius” fame, and the eminent South African actors Alice Krige and John Kani in “StringCaesar,” a film project created with Pollsmoor prisoners.
